I'm having a hard time finding specifics about Z170 boards that support dual channel memory running quad channel memory kits and were meant for X99 boards (for specifics see below)

Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 7 with CMK32GX4M4A2666C16 Corsair DDR4 memory 4x8Gigs

A lot of similar memory kits are listed on Gigabytes XMP profile but I'm assuming this one isn't because it is quad channel. Will it still work with XMP or will I run into problems? As far as I know it will just assume it is dual channel and run it as that which would be fine.

Let me know because I will return it if so. Just so you know the reason I got it was because it was practically a steal for the price

Solution
To be honest there is no such thing as Quad channel DRAM or , Tri or Dual, all sticks are independent 64bit devices, when in a rig and depending on the MC
(memory controller) they will be set up and run in the appropriate manner ( on a dual mobo they run as a single 128bit device, tri runs three (or 6) sticks as a 192bit device, and true quad sees the sticks as a 256bit device, so most any 2 or 4 stick set will run in true dual channel mode.
