Having trouble starting new pc. This is the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/V26mwP. Yesterday I did an out of case build and a test boot (without peripherals) and it went straight to the bios and everything was fine. Now I am trying to start it and the computer turns on (monitor is on) and boots and I am pressing delete/F2/Escape (I've tried each one) and nothing happens. On the screen a message pops up saying no hdmi input. Also, the computer seems to restart every minute or so. The DVD drive will also not open. All the fans are spinning and everything looks good inside. Not sure if this is one problem or several problems. This is also my first build, so don't leave anything out because it is too obvious (btw RAM is in).

Getting page not found on your parts link.

The HDMI cord might not be connected to the proper port on the display (some TVs require use of a specific one for PC), and you may have mistakenly used the MB HDMI output port instead of the GPU.

Also, sometimes overlooked, make sure your display is on (DOH!) HDMI connected devices can also take a few tries to detect one another too (called HDMI "handshake" in laymen's terms), and it can sometimes take turning on the display before or after the PC. It's sort of like booting up

Also, only connect the OS drive and leave others disconnected for now. This is so Windows will only see the OS drive for drive letter assignment and registry association. , If you are planning to put your OS on an SSD, in the BIOS, set storage configuration to AHCI, not IDE.

It's also very helpful to make a partition just for the OS if you plan to put any programs or games on the OS drive. Windows will ask what partition you want the OS on and what size before installing it. This makes any future formats (reinstalling or changing Windows versions) very easy.

Reformatted the link, should work now. The link is the same one I used on the successful test boot, so I am pretty sure that is not the cause. I will make sure to take your advice on the drives once I manage to access my BIOS. Could you elaborate a bit on what you were saying about recognizing the monitor? Is that something that could have changed since my test boot?

Just because you got a successful test boot doesn't necessarily mean you are not accidentally hooked to MB HDMI vs GPU HDMI. When you say "don't leave anything out because it is too obvious", you should do the same. I expected an answer on that.

Also, you've yet to even say what type of display you're using. TVs in general are more picky than monitors about what port is used for PC. You need to specify these things.

As for recognizing (detection), HDMI linked devices can be finicky getting proper detection sometimes. More so home theater devices than computer specific. That is why I asked if it's a TV or monitor.

So the type of display I am using is the monitor on my parts list. Sorry for the confusion, I thought that I had answered that by correcting the link. As for the connection, I have tried to both the monitor and the graphics card, with both an hdmi-dvid cable and a vga cable, so I don't think that is the problem. What I am leaning towards right now is a motherboard short of some kind. I think I'm going to take it all apart and see what I can find.
