DOA ram or incompatibility?

Hello,

So basically my motherboard is fairly old, I decided to pick up some ram during black Friday but now I'm having some problems. My motherboard is http://www.ecs.com.tw/website2008/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=1090&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=24&LanID=0 and the ram I purchased is http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00569K7LM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00

Now all the memory compatibility tests I ran say the ram is compatible, but since the my board supports 1333mhz it would just downclock the 1600mhz. So when I put the sticks in the PC tries to post but just freezes and shows graphical artifacts on screen. If I take a single stick out it will show as 4gigs in single channel mode and POST but will BSOD when trying to boot windows.
Here's the things I've tried:

Plugging both sticks into the red/red dimm slots = Freeze during POST (Can see it being read in dual channel mode but doesn't show how much memory)
Plugging both sticks into the yellow/yellow dimm slots = Freeze during POST (Can see it being read in dual channel mode but doesn't show how much memory)
Plugging a single stick into a red dimm slot = Passes POST but BSOD at windows start (Reads as 4 gigs in single channel mode)
Plugging a single stick into a yellow dimm slot = Passes POST but BSOD at windows start (Reads as 4 gigs in single channel mode)
Plugged one stick in a red and one stick in a yellow dimm slot. = Passes POST but BSOD at windows startup (Reads as 8 gigs of ram in single channel mode)

I've tried tinkering with the bios while in single channel mode and nothing I change seems to have any effect, it still BSODs while trying to boot into windows. Is this an issue of my motherboard just being too old and not compatible with the ram or are the sticks bad? Any help would be appreciated, sorry if this post is confusing, I'm not great with technical terms.

Thanks

I have the same BIOS version that it came with, I've always been too afraid to update it because I don't know what I'm doing. I can get into the BIOS with a single stick plugged in.

BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 080015, 5/19/2010
SMBIOS Version 2.6
