That's not an article, its a forum post and yes, I read it before I purchased it. Its baseless conjecture by someone who doesn't even own it or has personally tested it. I'd take JohnnyGuru's review over that and he has no issue with it after thorough testing given its price and target market:

"EVGA's older and less efficient precursor to the 500B is no great gift to the world of power supplies. There are no new groundbreaking technologies in the housing. You don't get a bag full of stickers, zip ties, posters, or any other tomfoolery that you don't need. What you do get is quite possibly the most solid forty dollar unit on the market today. Would I buy it myself? If I was on that tight a budget, yes. I would. Again... you could do a heck of a lot worse, and not just at this price point."

Yes, its a budget power supply, but an extremely popular one that has proven reliable for many customers. Check close to 200 users reviews on Newegg given it a pretty solid rating. Check close to 1,000 user reviews on Amazon giving it a pretty solid rating. http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Continuous-Warranty-Supply-100-W1-0500-KR/dp/B00H33SFJU. If you want to go with anecdotal experience I corresponded at TechPowerUp with a person who builds PCs for a living and he's used it in over a dozen builds and not one customer has had an issue. There's absolutely no need to spend another $16 unless you just want to. I'm an owner of both and its been a perfectly reliable pair for since last spring.
