Is this a solid mid-range build with value for money?

I've done some research, however to be honest I've found the whole process of building a PC a little daunting. In the end I found this selection of parts listed as a decent mid-range build, but i'm wondering if it is good value for money, or if it would be worth spending slightly more. I wouldn't want to go far over £1000 really.

The computer will be used mostly for video editing as part of my job however I would like to play games from time to time.

Any help would be hugely appreciated, I feel like a bit of a nuisance.

Hi there! Looking at your parts list it all looks good for the majority! However, I would make a few adjustments which will unfortunately involve an increase in price but none the less!

CPU - since you are doing a lot of video editing (and i guess rendering?) an i7 CPU would make a lot more sense - utilising 4 physical cores as well as 8 virtual cores (hyper-threading) means rendering can be done a lot faster and to a better standard all in LESS TIME - if this is your job then i7 is a must (you dont really need i7-6700k unless you want to overclock, so heres 2 options:
get i7-6700 and ditch the hyper 212 evo - (-£24.95, -£205.99, +£269.99)
get i7-6700k and keep the hyper 212 evo - (-£205.99, + £349.99)

PSU - I have a rule of thumb...

PSU - I have a rule of thumb which may be a bit overkill but I think it makes sense, double your estimated TDP to get the right wattage for your power supply.
Get the corsair CX-750m (only about £5 more) but gives you extra wattage you may need?

Case of course is personal preference and yours look neat!

Good luck and enjoy the build!

Thanks for the help, hugely appreciated!
Is overclocking worth doing, or would it not be overly noticeable?
I expect I will step it up to the i7 as it sounds like it makes a lot of sense.

Ok so this is a funny one actually!
Overclocking brings more power and performance to your build by increasing the clock speed per core and adding more voltage to the CPU - theoretically decreasing rendering times and increasing performance in games and across the board. However it can incur stability issues and will usually decrease the life of your CPU.

If you want to do proper, well thought out overclock I would do a lot of research, especially looking at suggested clock speeds and voltages for your chosen CPU - on youtube and google!

Also I would HIGHLY recommend getting the Corsair H100i GTX All in one watercooling system if you want to overclock, it will provide much better cooling than an air cooler alone.

Honestly, if you can avoid it, I think sticking to the i7-6700 would provide you with plenty of power and performance for rendering and gaming without any problems, also buying the i7-6700k and the air cooler is also a good option but personally I don't really recommend overclocking UNLESS you are very experienced and know what your doing or else you could burn out the chip and damage the motherboard losing yourself a lot of money.

But hey, thats just my opinion :D

I'm enjoying the education that is coming with this build, I'll stick with the 6700. Thank you so much for the help!
