Normal internet speed, except over 1000 ping...

My internet is running normally, except when ever I try to play a game my ping exceeds 100 and even goes past 1000.
I am not very familiar with computer terms and stuff like that.
I have restarted my router/modem (don't know what the difference is), and the problem keeps occurring.

War Thunder, Battlefront, World of Warships, League of Legends. There are more games that I play, but they are the ones I have tested ping in.

I am not too sure if it is the game/s
