I have a Nvidia Geforce 770. For awhile now it will turn off or shut down and my screen will go black. My computer will be useless until I reset it. Sometime that wont even help. It will take me 3 or 4 shut downs and moving the card around for it to finally work. It will randomly shut off and stop working. While writing this post it already turned off and I had to restart my computer. I have cleaned all the dust inside my computer and done everything that I could think of. I got this card about a year and a half ago. So its fairly new. I need help badly. I can't do my college work like this.

Processor: Athlon Phenom II X4
Motherboard: Asus 970 Extreme3
Ram: 12g DDR3
PSU: 850W
HDD: 1T

Well I put my computer in its side and laid it down so there isnt any strain on the GPU connector or motherboard. It hasn't turned off nearly as much. but it still will once in awhile. So would you recommend me getting a new motherboard?

Try it in the other PCI-E slot, even though it runs at x4 instead of x16 as the ASRock motherboad page says, if you are having issues still, it more than likely is the card. Other than that, the next best option if you can is to try it in another computer to help rule out the motherboard even more.

Have you heard any beeps when the computer shuts down and restarts?

It beeps when up boots up. I think it could be the motherboard just because ive been having problems with it also. The usb ports shut on and off, turning off my mouse, wifi antenna, and keyboard, over and over. I also tried to use the other PCI slot and the card wouldn't turn on at all.

If you are having other issues like that in conjunction with the video card then that definitely points the arrow to the motherboard. What kind of beeps are we happening upon start up? 1 beep, 2 beeps, short/long beeps, etc.

Its just one quick, loud beep when it boots up. then it shows the windows logo.

Okay since the BIOS on your motherboard is from AMI, one beep means there is some issue with your RAM. Try re-seating it or putting it in different slots to see if it is the slot itself or if it somehow came loose. If that does not work you can try and get some really cheap 2GB sticks and see if that changes anything.

I have actually tried that multiple times. I've changed the ram around before and all it did was make not all 12 gigs usable. I also just noticed that my computer says only 10 gigs are usable right now. My motherboard has done that beep since I got it. Could I have gotten just a bad motherboard?

The 2GB are being used by the computer itself just to keep it operating so you have the extra 10GB to do with as you please so that much is fine and nothing to worry about whatsoever. Definitely an odd issue, but with all the problems you have had it will either be the mobo or the ram, definitely evidence pointing either way. Hopefully we can get some more opinions on this.

My GPU first started with issues when I have windows 10. so i downgraded to windows 7 thinking it was 10 messing it up. But it didn't fix the problem. I first had 8 gigs of ram. Then I put all 12 gigs in. I booted up my computer and looked at the system info and it said that there was only 4 gigs usable. so I restarted the computer and then it said 6 gigs. Then I restarted AGAIN and it said 12. I restarted it one last time and my ram went down to 2 gigs usable. Just recently it stayed at 12 gigs. But it seems like its not anymore. But like I said my USB devices also disconnect and tweak out randomly too. It also made my computer blue screen a couple of times because of it. I couldn't read the blue screen that fast but I saw something like BUG_USB_DRIVER.error. Or something like that. But ive also noticed that when my GPU turns off, right before it does, my mouse and keyboard will turn off too. So could my GPU turning off and not working be caused by bad usb slots or something with the motherboard?

Yeah that seems extremely odd for all the to be happening, the GPU would not be causing all of that to happen so it definitely is not the issue.
RAM could have been effecting some of the problems but not all that you are experiencing. If there is any way at all you could get another MOBO to at least try it out, the cheapest am3+ boards go for $40-60 bucks or if you can get a cheaper used one or even better for free that would be a wise thing to attempt.
