Better motherboard/CPU, but worse boot-performance?

Hey guys. Long time lurker here, always found this place very useful in many cases, but this time I'm gonna need some direct help from you.

Yesterday I finished upgrading my computer with the following new pieces of hardware: a new case, a new CPU and a new Motherboard. After getting everything to work and upgrading the BIOS I was all set. Except I've run into a problem.

My computer feels sluggish compared to how it used to handle, especially when booting up. The log-in screen takes a few seconds to get me into the desktop, and once I'm there the start-up programs don't start popping up until after several seconds (compared to before I upgraded the hardware where the programs would basically be rolling in straight away and with a rapid pace). It also feels like programs generally just take a bit longer to open in general use, like browsers and applications. Here's the hardware:

Old Motherboard: Asus P8P67 PRO
New Motherboard: ASUS H97M-E
Old Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K
New Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K

As for storage I'm using a Samsung 830 128GB as my main drive. This is where all my core applications, programs and the OS itself is installed. I also have a regular old HDD in my build, but I doubt that hardly matters in this case. I have checked SATA connections and tried changing the cables. No improvement. I'm contemplating reinstalling windows 10, but have no idea if it will help anything. I pulled my SSD and HDD straight out of my old motherboard and into the new one "plug n play" style without reformatting or reinstalling anything. It loads up windows and my programs fine (apart from this problem). Not sure if that's relevant in any way though.

If anyone has any suggestions to what action to take, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Thank you very much.

Solution
Typically when doing a "plug and play"upgrade like you've done I would always re-install the system as I've always found that the system is slightly slower than before even though the hardware suggest that it should not be.
Might have something to do with trying to load the old drivers and trying to look for the old hardware which is no longer there.
