Ideal video card for high resolution monitor, but no gaming

I recently purchased an HP Envy 32 with 2560 x 1440 resolution. I mostly do Microsoft Office apps, but also Adobe Photosop Elements and Premier Elements. I do not do ANY gaming. I just want this monitor to perform to its maximum potential while working with PowerPoint documents (with embedded images and videos) and viewing/editing 10 mb JPGs.

I am leaning toward a GTX 960 with 2 gb memory. Should I do 4 gb instead of 2? Should I select a different GTX level? Please advise.

For your purpose a gtx750 or gtx 750 ti is completely fine. Gtx 960 will require more power from your power supply. Gtx 750 or gtx750ti are just plug and play and also cost less.

Edit: Also try to invest in an ssd. And Gtx 960 is completely fine too. But I would recommend Gtx750ti + SSD

THANK YOU. THE PRICE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 750 Ti AND THE 960 2gb IS ONLY $60.

I HAVE ADDED A 500 gb SSD TO MY BUILD LIST.

This PCPARTSPICKER configuration is priced out as $910. I would not care to go much more, maybe to $1,000. I am a neophyte at this, so your thoughts are welcome.

Here I made a ddr4 build for you for 910$. I think if you are spending 900-1000$ you should go for a ddr4 build. It also includes price of OS which you didn't include in your build.

Thank you. Very interesting build. I am checking it all out now. I notice your recommendation did not include a CPU cooler. Not needed?

I was operating under the assumption that my motherboard choice came with Win 8 which I could upgrade, but that might not be true.

In my opinion, if you are not gaming at all, Intel integrated graphics cards will be enough for your needs. You should know that nowadays the integrated graphics cards are even better than most low-end dedicate ones.

Perhaps that could work. I connected my new 32" 2560 x 1440 monitor to my six year old Dell with a ATI Radeon 4350 and it looks dreadful. I even inserted a GTX 730 and no better. But plugged into my new notebook it looks great. So, will the newer on-board graphics support the higher resolution?

At least according to the specs, the integrated graphics cards can support 4k usage.

I have connected my 21:9 monitor to my macbook pro retina for around one week. The graphics card is HD 6100. It could handle the build-in 2560x1600 screen and the 2560x1080 second screen at the same without problems.

So my suggestion is just to grab a 4th generation i5 or i7. The integrated HD 4600 should be enough for you. Besides, if you choose a locked cpu (without k at the end), this is no need to buy a Z97. You can jump to B85. The difference between Z97 and B85 is just the ability of overclocking. In this way you can save around 200 bucks.

Latest On board graphics are enough for your office needs and powerful enough for 2560x1440 resolution. You can buy the build I suggested without the graphics card (you will save 180$). And you won't need a different cpu cooler since the intel cpu I suggested comes with a cooler and wont need a separate cooler. But stay with the ddr4 build since its more future proof , it comes with usb 3.1 type and sata express connector (for faster ssd or usb type c front panel).
