Hello everyone. I must start off by saying THANK YOU FOR READING THIS. Yesterday i built my friends brand new AMD8350 build for him at school. It consists of an AMD 8350 , running at stock speeds. 16gb of corsair vengeance rams(with the red heat spreader). An asus rog Crosshair V Formula motherboard. Power color AMD R9 380, OCZ 240GB SSD, seagate HDD and a power supply, which i forgot the name. But it seems solid. It is fully modular. Not a brand i knew though. First off, when i started the board it booted fine. Except in the bios the 16gb of ram on read as 8? so i shit it off and switched the ram slot to see if that would work. Then the board would not boot into bios at all! So i switched it back and still nothing. I did some looking around online and i noticed in the manual you could flash the bios with a USB. I i did a bio update and it booted in YAY! I didn't think this should have needed an update for the 8350 but??? So now we went to install windows. One of my good friends has an ez boot USB drive. A god send i must say. Windows was horrible to install. It would keep freezing and restarting. We would have to clear the cmos also to get it to boot sometimes. It would sometimes not want to boot the the ssd, leading us to think the ssd was bad? We must have installed windows about 6-8 times. I decided to test the ram. So i took one stick out and it booted fine. Then swapped them and it would not go into bios etc. So we figured that stick was bad. We tried windows install again and it worked! So we started doing driver updates and all of a sudden it froze again. By this time keep in mid i feel absolutely horrible. I thought this would be easy as build usually are but no. So we thought maybe the ssd was faulty? So we installed windows on the hdd and it was going good. All of a sudden it froze. Hear broken. So im scared now. I have no idea on what to do. Im worried i may have broken something? Could i have bent one of the pins on the cpu? voltages seem fine? Im going to bring my PNY XLR8 kit from my pc into the school from my pc to see if it is the ram? One of my hardware friends thinks the motherboard may be bad? PLEASE ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED. I feel horrible for putting my friend through this and i want to get him his system up and running.

Yes all the parts came in last week, do these symptoms sound like a bad motherboard?

Wow there is a lot going on there. Here are some suggestions:

* Use only 1 stick of suspected good RAM in the "good" slot.
* Use either the SSD or HD only.
* Verify all power connectors for the GPU, Mobo, SSD/HD are all connected good.
* Reset all values in the BIOS to default.
* Complete a full install before adding any other parts (assuming you get that far).

What PSU make/model do you have, because it sounds like a possible PSU issue to me?

We got the pc to install windows, it is just that it freezes randomly now.

Okay a couple of other things to try:

* Try different PCI-e power connectors for your GPU.
* Run Memtest86 on each RAM stick and verify they are good/not good.
* Run an Antivirus program and verify no issues there.
* Run Malware program and verify no issues there.
* Re-seat all of your power connections from your PSU to all of the parts plugged in.
* Try another PSU, if you have that option, just to verify that the PSU isn't doing funny things.
* Try HD Utility Sea Tools on the Seagate HD.
* Re-install Windows with given "good" parts in the correct slots and format the HD too, before installation (may of had a corrupt file or two, as you have had numerous issues).

OK will try, one thing that still haunts me is the possibility i bent a pin? Do you thiml this would be caused by a bent pin?: The cpu dropeed right in so i donmt think i bent aything but im still scared because its my firends money on the line and the pc freezes. Btw with the Seatools. We had the OS on both the ssd and the hdd and it still froze. Also it has only been on the internet for 5 minutes total so it really cant be a virus.

I don't rule out a virus, but something to try and verify.

As far as the bent pin, it seems unlikely, but it would be good to remove the CPU and double check. This will also allow you to double check the seating of the CPU HSF to CPU connection too.
