Hey guys -

Last night I built a new machine but kept my old SSD and HDD. I formatted both of these storage as I wanted to have clean storage with new machine. To install my Windows 7 Professional 64bit, I unplugged HDD and only connected the SSD drive.

This is how I formatted my drives:
HDD: Before I formatted my SSD, I went to device manage>storage> disk management and formatted my HDD from here.

SSD: After formatting and unplugging my HDD, I booted from my Windows 7 CD and formatted my SSD from custom (advance) windows installation, and also installed Windows 7.

Here's why I think I might have to re-install my Windows 7:
1. After installation, I ran windows update, got 200 updates the first round. Restarted my computer, it is saying there are 16 additional. So I downloaded and restarted my computer. Now they are saying there are 7 more, 8 more, 6 more, etc. It keeps prompting me with more windows updates after I finish one installation and restart my computer.

2. I cannot upgrade to Windows 10. After downloading Windows 10, I was brought to Windows BIOS screen for Windows 10 to get installed. From here, I get error message "Windows 10 couldn't be installed" error 8007002C-40000D.

3. I cannot install some of the items (Origin, Battlefield, etc.) to my C: drive (SSD). I can download stuff fine, but cannot install items within my SSD.

4. If I change SATA type from IDE to AHCI, my windows wil not boot, prompting me to "restore windows (recommended)" or "Start windows normally". If I press restore, it performs restore for like 5 minutes and prompts me back to the same screen. If I press start windows normally, it prompts me back to the same screen giving me circular motion. So I have to change back to IDE to boot windows.

Sorry for the long note, and thanks for those who read my concerns. If you guys know a solution to what I am going through, PLEASE let me know!!! Also, if you guys think only way to fix this problem is to re-install windows, PLEASE let me know how to do so (more detail better! I am pretty new to building my own machine).

Thanks guys!!!

Solution
To change IDE to AHCI for SSD, you go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_System > CurrentControlSet > Services > Msahci
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_System > CurrentControlSet > Services > iaStor
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_System > CurrentControlSet > Services > iaStorV
Change the values ( maybe other iaStorF too, all of them) from 0 To 1, restart your computer/laptop , and go to Bios and set from AHCI to IDE, save settings in Bios and restart

Having tons of updates like that is fine and normal. The updates need to be installed in order and so they are only offered after other updates are done.

Once you changed the AHCI setting, see if that helps the Windows 10 issue. Once you have upgraded you have the option to...
