Hi, so I made a $1000 AU build, and I was wondering if there's anything that I can add / improve while keeping it under $1000 AU, this might includes fans etc., keep in mind that it has to be able to be upgradeable, thanks!

I changed the CPU for a much better Intel one. If you want upgradeable, Intel's always best (then again they're best for most things), dropped the CPU cooler as the new CPU is locked, got a cheaper motherboard, changed the RAM to a 2x4 to take advantage of dual channel memory, unfortunately, I had to get rid of the SSD to stay under budget, but it's not much more to add it back in, slightly cheaper HDD, upgraded the GPU significantly, kept the case, and changed the PSU as that one was really low grade.

Overall, for the extra $20, it's definitely a lot of performance increase.

Yeah. The prices of anything in Australia is Savage, there is no mercy/remorse from any company selling computer parts here, it's hell since everything here is double of your price, yet we earn about the same money.

On the plus side we have medicare etc., which helps us with medical bills and we rarely get guns wars since guns are illegal here, and we don't have rabbies. :D

I think it's mainly just anything that is not manufactured here, things that can be manufactured here are actually okay, but, obviously, since most computer parts aren't manufactured here, we take the hit.

Agreed about things being expensive here in Australia. I moved last year from Chicago to Melbourne and was shocked at the price of everything. Food, beer, electronics, housing/rent, everything...
Right now is especially bad because the US dollar is high and the AUD is low.

Good point about medicare, but taxes are higher here in AUS so it's not like we're getting a "freebie". It's paid for in taxes.
The gun thing I agree with you on.

But Medicare is better in the long run. Would you rather pay small amounts over time, or be forced to pay a huge amount within a short amount of time which could mean loans and probably huge amounts of loss within short amounts of time.

That's totally debatable, and subjective. As a healthy person I'd much rather not have medicare. In the US I went to the doctor 1x per year and was on the least expensive health coverage plan that my company offered. No issues at all and extremely cheap. If I came down with cancer or other life threatening (aka: expensive) disease it would be covered except for the first $1500.

The same argument you make (lots of small payments to mitigate risk of a catastrophe) can be applied to all areas of life. Do you have umbrella insurance? If not, what if you get sued? Wouldn't you rather pay $25/month the rest of your life than potentially face a lawsuit someday and go bankrupt? Very unlikely, but what if? Same goes for every other type of insurance. My neighbor pays $12/month for a warranty for his dining room table! His reasoning is "What if something goes wrong?.. I'll be covered".

Of course I understand your point about the healthcare, especially if you have some medical issues which could mean $$$ in the US.
In the US lots of people tend to shy away from the socialist style programs (if everyone contributes a little, everyone can now participate) and goes toward capitalist approach (Work hard so you can pay your own way) which isn't always the best.

Well, you can't ever be 100% sure that you're going to be healthy, for example, you might have got AIDs etc. you can never be sure.

LOL you CAN be sure not to get AIDS.. but we won't get into that. haha
Like I said, even if I did get sick in the US with my cheapo insurance plan, I'd be completely covered except for the first $1500.

Anyways, I won't keep arguing - I definitely understand your point and I don't disagree completely.
