Here's my build which I'm currently putting together. It's been a while since I hooked on of these up, so excuse the noob question:
build:
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/pshopper/saved/#view=mWCRsY
So the PSU has a 24 pin modular cable which must go to the 20 pin interface on the mobo. This leaves me with only a 20 pin hookup which the mobo manual implied it could do. There is no place for the other 4 pin interface which dangles off the end of the cable.
Without a monitor attached, I powered up and the cpu fan didn't spin, but the lights for the front panel switches lit up. The PSU fan didn't spin, but that's expected because it doesn't fire up until needed. Seeing the CPU fan didn't spin, I turned the power off and unplugged immediately. Is there a chance I just damaged something?
I'm guessing that to get the full 24 pin power, I believe I need to use a second 6 pin modular cable, plugging into one of the HDD interfaces on the PSU. Then, I run that to another 4 pin interface on the mobo which is far away from the 20 pin interface already in use. This 4 pin interface is indicated in the mobo manual as what I should use for 24 pin power. Is this correct? Is this what I need to do to get things working?
Thanks for the help.
