Can I use my ASUS M2N4-SLI motherboard with an AMD Phenom II x6 1100T Black Edition? I know that it has been tested and verified with the AMD Phenom II x2, x3, and x4, but I haven't found anything about the x6.

The power supply is definitely capable of pushing enough power to run the x6, but how will the motherboard like it?

This mobo is DDR2 only, and specifies AM2 as the socket type. It appears that all the AMD Phenom CPUs have AM2 support. Is it true that any CPU will work with any motherboard, given that they support the same socket? i.e. Any AM2 CPU will work with an AM2 motherboard?

Solution
I don't know what else to tell you. You can try the 125W Ph II X6 1100T, but I suspect it either won't be recognized, or it will eventually burn out the voltage control for it. Do you already have the processor?

See http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASUS/M2N-SLI.html for a list of supported CPUs for my motherboard. The AMD Phenom II x2, x3, and x4 are on that list.

Yes, but those are all AM2+/AM3 processors produced during the time of transition from the AM2+ socket to the AM3 socket. The Ph II X6 1100T is strictly an AM3 processor.
Also, all those processors are 95W or smaller, the 1100T is 125W. I don't believe your board would last long running a 125W processor even if it was recognized.

I'm seeing (at least on newegg) that the x4 is also quoted as AM3. Also, on wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenom_II) I see that the x6 has identical socket specs as the x4 (AM2+, AM3 - I assume that since the x4 is AM2 compatible, the x6 would be as well). Also, the x6 is available in a 95W version.

According to my reference, it only supports the Ph II X4 CPUs that were combination AM2+/Am3 sockets. And you weren't asking about a 95W 6-core. You were asking about a 125W 6-core.

That would be the 1205(or 1301) according to the board's webpage. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M2N4SLI/HelpDesk_Download/
Do you have access to a later Asus page for your board?

I have 1301. I don't think there's a later page, but I'm open to non-ASUS updates (keep in mind though, I don't have internet on that machine so no autoupdate tools)

No I don't have the CPU, but I'd rather have a hexa-core. I'll keep shopping around, but thanks for your info!
