Upgrading from DDR2 to DDR3

So I'm working on an old Dell Inspiron 560 with a G43T-M motherboard. I understand came with 4GB (4 x 1GB) 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz, 800 MHz (PC2-5300, PC2-6400)

I purchased 2 sticks of 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600MHz (PC3 12800)

Are the new sticks that I purchased compatible? When making my purchase decision, I went by the pin connection and max memory size supported by the board. Do the other specs matter?

I couldn't get the system to boot when I removed the original 4 sticks and put the 2 new sticks into slots 1 and 3. I read in another forum with a similar issue that perhaps updating the BIOS might work? I'm a little out of my league here.

Thanks for any help.

Solution
º Dual-channel DDR2 memory architecture
º 4 x 240-pin DDR2 DIMM socket support up to 8 GB
º (Please insert two Single Bank memory modules to each channel when using one channel with two dimms.)
º For more information, please refer QVL memory list on ECS website
º Support DDR2 800/667 DDR2 SDRAM

You want DDR2 800mhz 4x2gb (8gb)non ECC, non registered, unbuffered SDRAM

No it wont DDR3 only works with DDR3 boards. And that means you need a new board, please tell me what CPU you have so i can find you the right Motherboard. Cause you might buy a DDR3 board but maybe the cpu is not compatible.

If you try putting those sticks in they wont fit cause the notches are in different places even though the number of pins is the same.

I'm not looking to purchase a new motherboard... I'm fine sending back the DDR3 and getting a replacement setup that works with the board. It currently has an Intel Pentium E6700 / 3.2 GHz, however I plan on swapping that out with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 Quad-Core 2.5 GHz LGA 775.

make sure your motherboard has the most recent BIOS update, it should take any socket 775 processor you want to install in it. That includes the quad core processors as well. The only problem will be finding them at reasonable prices since Intel stopped producing them some time ago. The Core 2 Duo E8600 is a 3.33GHz dual core processor and is the fastest dual core for socket 775. There was supposed to be the E8700 at 3.5GHz but I don't think it ever made it out of engineering. The Core 2 Quad Q9650 is the 3Ghz quad core processor and is the fastest non-extreme edition quad core socket 775 processor.
