I just overclocked my processor and I'm wondering if 40 degrees Celsius is a safe average temperature.

Solution
40c is fine, but it sounds like an idle temperature (when the CPU isn't generating much heat). Where you need to be concerned is when the CPU is being worked during high load, such as (mentioned by soldier5637) during Prime95, or while gaming to a lesser degree.

Idle temperatures can be misleading, load temperatures are what you need to be concerned with.

Best of luck!
