So I'm thinking about finally upgrading my GPU.
SAPPHIRE 100362-3L Radeon R9 290 4GB 512-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX
other specs would be
i5 4690k
EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G1 80+ GOLD, 750W Fully Modular 10 Year Warranty Power Supply 120-G1-0750-XR
MSI ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97 GAMING 5
8GB corsair vengeance ram (2x4)
I wanna future proof it for a few more years and wouldn't mind upgrading the PSU as well.
Should I purchase a new graphics card or should I just buy another 290.
Also if I were to buy the same graphics card how would i crossfire it?

There is no such thing as future proof. And I think that GPU will hold for few years to come, it is quite good. Under gtx 970 but above 960, around gtx 780

But if you want to upgrade (and can sell your current card) then you should go straight for the 980 ti. If you can not, then another 290 would do the job. Just be aware of the noise and heat they will provide.

Your psu is good quality, and it might be able to handle 2 way crossfire 290 and your cpu. I recommend asking someone with more knowledge than I have.

With DirectX12 Crossfiring and SLI, the scaling should have much better performance than what we have right now. Plus a lot of games still do not support it at the most effective rate anyways. Not saying that they do not support it, just that it could be better.

Since you already have an R9-290, I would just wait until the end of 2016 to be totally honest. You have a really good card still, and a lot of things will be coming out/changing next year so I would wait the ride and see what happens to you can make a better decision for the future of your computer. There are options like the Fury X and 980 Ti but with HMB 2.0 coming out next year, it is definitely an eye catcher.
