I'd strongly recommend you to test the HDD using its manufacturer's diagnostic tool. The utility will help you determine the health and SMART status of the drive and it should also display its serial number. Once you have that, go to the manufacturer's website and do a warranty status check. If it's still covered that means, the drive is legit. In case of any issues, contact their customer support for assistance.
Another reason that could be changing the name of your HDD is outdated SATA controller drivers for your computer/motherboard. I'd strongly suggest you to update from the motherboard's website, instead of Windows Updates.
