ST2000DM001 2TB showing up as OOS2000G in device manager

Why is this problem coming? It should show up as ST2000DM001 in device manager right? But its showing up as OOS2000G ATA Device in Device Manager. Possible Reasons? The hard disk is newly purchased

I'd strongly recommend you to test the HDD using its manufacturer's diagnostic tool. The utility will help you determine the health and SMART status of the drive and it should also display its serial number. Once you have that, go to the manufacturer's website and do a warranty status check. If it's still covered that means, the drive is legit. In case of any issues, contact their customer support for assistance.

Another reason that could be changing the name of your HDD is outdated SATA controller drivers for your computer/motherboard. I'd strongly suggest you to update from the motherboard's website, instead of Windows Updates.

Thanks for the support SuperSoph_WD. The warranty of the newly purchased hard disk was valid till October 2014. Seems that it's not legit, and I'll be getting a refund

hi, i have the same problem, i tried to find out the serial number using the manufacturer's diagnostic tool but it just shows "00000000" and i couldn't find any info about the warranty since i don't have the serial number
i dont know how to contact their customer support for assistance, can u please provide a link or something so that i can live chat or message them ?
