I am NOT downloading anything
I am NOT saving any files whatsoever, no photos, nothing.. !!!

still, I am losing a half-GIG of memeory EVERY DAY !!!

I started to notice this months ago, and had nearly 50 GB free on my HD ..

I have disabled AUTO .Updates, and disabled WINDOWS DEFENDER since they were still putting on updates into the HD without my permission ... still, this eating up of my HD is continueing without end .. PLEASE help save me .. I can not find where these stupid files are being added .. I have no ANtiVirus program installed . but did have it, and it made no difference .. the 500-800 MB were disappearing anyway, every day ..

OK, first step, when getting a uses system you need to make sure you setup a clean build of Windows on it and make sure you have the right accounts on it. If the system you bought did not have a clean setup, do that first. Backup your files and settings...
First, install an antivirus program, run a full scan. Install Malwarebytes, you can just use the demo and not the full paid version, run a scan with that.

Install WinDirStat, run the scan, that will show you what files are being used where and you can sort by date to see where these newly created files are going to.

HI . Thank you to both people who replied to me yesterday and today ,, both answers were similar, and first one included the links to toms downloading of these programs .., However, I tried to download but got message that my VISTA can not read or open these program files .. they were downloaded alrgith and inside my download folders, but when I cliked to open them, the computer refused ... so I have nothing to go on,,
I did a HD Defragmentation yesterday, and lost a FURTHER 13 GIG.s of memeory .,!!!!!
terrible .... so now I have only 4 GIGs of meory left,m and losing ONE HALF GIG per day on something ..
so this is getting SUPER URGENT !!!
I lost 13 GIGS on that defragmentation .. i am super sad ... !
any ideas here ""
i will of course search for AVG FREE edition, but have many fears about getting the wrong one from the wrong site and just making things worse !!!
Thanks though !

WINDOWS VISTA shows message that it can not read the file path OR that I do not have the necessary permission to access this type of file ... which perhaps means that I do not have Administrator power over my laptop .. which I bought used from people and have NO IDEA what the administrator password could be ,, I will try however to see if I can access ADMINISTRATOR ,., however,m this might not solve my problem of accessing the MALWARE defense files that I have downloaded ,.,.

OK, first step, when getting a uses system you need to make sure you setup a clean build of Windows on it and make sure you have the right accounts on it. If the system you bought did not have a clean setup, do that first. Backup your files and settings like Favorites, and re-install Windows clean. There should be a factory restore option on the system.

Never use a system from someone else unless you re-install the operating system and programs clean. It's like wearing someone's underwear without even washing it first.
