Looking to add a SSD to this machine, but in searching online I am getting conflicting info.
Does the M.2 slot on this machine support SATAIII or PCIe?
I know the laptop is compatible with PCIe 3.0, but it isn't clear whether that means the M.2 slot or maybe the PCIe x4 of the MOBO.
One review I read specifically state the M.2 slot was SATAIII, but it isn't clear on the ASUS website.

Also, do I have to go with a PCIe SSD, or will a SATA SSD like the samsung EVO 850 work?
I read that the interface of SATA and PCIe is different and cannot be mixed.

Sorry for my ignorance - just looking to add an SSD but want to make sure it is compatible.

Yea I am not sure either but If it is a SATA III conection then it won't matter if you get a M.2 or SATA as they will both max out at the same speed. The great thing though is if you get a M.2, and get like a 250Gb or something, you have the SATA slot open to add in either another SSD or Hard Drive for extra storage. Like maybe toss in a 1TB drive if you really need the storage.
