So I'm ready to move up to 1440 or higher gaming. I'm looking at a couple monitors and will be handing over crossfired 270x cards to the kids. They are currently on my 6870s which I passed down before. So this time I'm hoping for a bit of a step up in resolution, but it appears that two 390s or two 970s is the way to go. Kinda out of the budget at the moment.

I was hoping to get crossfire/sli cards for under $500, but that doesn't really seem to be an option. I am not sure if going to the 380 or 770 in crossfire/sli are that big of a step up from the dual 270x ... I could likely swing the dual 390s BUT there is the cost of getting a new CPU for the kid that doesn't get my hand me down CPU.

If you guys were looking to step up to the 1440 gaming or higher, would you consider dual 380s or 770s be worth it?

THANKS!

Solution
The 390 is a great card to go for at 1440p, in games like GTA V it can hold an average of 45FPS max setting at 1440p. The 970 is also nice, but above 1080p the 390 takes the edge.

Hmmm. It isn't really weather I buy them now or a later, I can "afford" them, but I'm way outside of my fun money with a second 390 or 970. If I didn't need to get the higher resolution monitor I'd be golden.

We are saying though that the 390 is a minimum to go to 1440? At least that question is answered. I need to evaluate what I really want to do now ... Talk the wife into another $350 for my toys, LOL.
