Gaming graphics card for Lenovo desktop

Recently bought my first ever desktop, a Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 72 (tower version, NOT small form factor).

I have upgraded RAM to 8GB and changed OS to Windows 7, but all other specs are as stock (found here: http://www.lambda-tek.com/-RCCDDUK~sh/B1334326&viewSpec=y#productTop)

Looking for suggestions for a graphics card on a budget that would allow me to play the Witcher 3 ideally and other new-ish RPGs (but bang for buck is top priority for sure!). A bit of guidance on how I install it (never done any hardware upgrades before aside from adding RAM) would also be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

First thing you need to do before you get a video card is upgrade the power supply.

180watt continuous power, I laugh.

You will need a 500watt power supply. Preferably 80+ rated.

After you grab a PSU grab a gtx 960 or one of the new gtx 950.

Thanks for the reply.

I saw on another forum though that it could be possible to add some graphics cards without having to change the power supply? I would rather not if possible (purely financial reasons) - my total budget is ~£100.

PS. also does that mean the processor I have got is sufficiently good?

PPS. my monitor is a 18.5inch non-HD monitor, if that makes any difference.

If you didn't have a 180 watt, and instead had something like a 300 watt then you could have gotten away without having to replace the power. You have 180watts available and the videocard will need 75watts through the PCIe bus. The CPU uses 65watts. It's doable with that powersupply but you would be pushing it.

I would grab 300 watt powersupply and get a gtx 750ti then. (totally forgot your budget was only 100BP)

Here's a 750ti for $105USD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500349
Use whatever is left for the powersupply.

I see, thanks for explaining.

Would what you've suggested be sufficient for running Witcher 3 and similarly new-ish RPGs on at least high settings? And would it be able to handle it if I were to get a 1080p monitor?

I said my budget is circa 100GBP (i'm not sure if that is considered high or low), but I can stretch to at least ensure the above can be accomplished, albeit at the lowest price possible!

I can't say it will play them on high settings, I will say that it will play them.
I had an R7 260x which was comparable to the GTX 750 and 750ti. I ran games like GTA5 and ARK survival on medium to high settings at 1280x1024. The 260x and 750ti are beasts for their price point. Of course 60fps gaming is out of the question without losing graphic quality, and on some games impossible.

What I can suggest is googling "gtx 750ti GTA5" for example. Look at benchmarks for that particular card on the games you want to play and purchase the ones you think perform the best.
