Hi guys, I cannot find a real name for these types of motherboards that can use either DDR3 or DDR4.

I just bought 16 gigs of DDR3 RAM 2133 for 65 bucks, but because I apparently have a bad BIOS chip, they are locked at 1333 as is my i5 2500k at 3.7, super annoying - contacted support on Friday.

Wanted to know if I have to replace MB sometime soon, can I get one that runs Skylake with these DDR3 sticks that I got, and then in a few years upgrade to DDR4 with the same MB?

Thanks so much, my current MB is ASRock, so beware, many other users had the issue too!

Btw, there is no difference bewteen plain DDR3 and DDR 3 (L). right? Not sure what it means, just saw it on articles talking about DDR4.

I also saw something about UniDimms but searching for it didn't work on Newegg.

A mobo that would run either DDR3 or DDr4 would be a hybrid - similar to the later 775 mobos that could run either the then standard of DDR2 or the then newer DDR3, haven't seen any (yet) for the Skylake 1151 socket and with prices what they are sort of doubt we will, or if so very few.

Wouldn't it be the go-to Motherboard for like 80% of all current users that want Skylake but don't want to spend too much on DDR4?

I know that there are DDR3 Skylake MBs, but they would later on become obsolete. Not these Hybrids, useful and cheap now, relevant later?
