Hardware: I am using a ASUS ROG HERO VIII (skylake) board with the Corsair 780t case

Issue: Front audio panel (mic and headphones) is not registering my headphone or mic when I plug it in even though the lights are on indicating that it is properly plugged in.

Research/troubleshooting so far: I googled the issue and visited many sites, and also visited many threads with users reporting similar problems on this website (tom's hardware). I've tried all the solutions I found but none worked (installing Realtek, reinstalling drivers, unplugging and replugging in the HD audio port.

The story: I completed my build about 3 days ago and everything about my build has been absolutely perfect except for this one issue. The strange thing is that the panel WAS working on the first day! I plugged in my headphones as soon as i installed the OS and moved my old files over and started listening to music to celebrate the completion of my new build. Fast forward to 2 days later and I try to plug in my headphones again and all of a sudden it's no longer working.

- Yes the HD Audio is enabled in my BIOS. Some people suggested changing the HD Audio to AC97 instead but I do not have that option. My case ONLY came with the HD Audio input, and the AC97 option doesn't even show up on my BIOS. I don't want to settle for AC97 anyway because the HD Audio was a part of the reason I purchased this board.

I am certain this is the right place because this is the place that is indicated on the motherboard manual, and the plug is shaped in such a way that no other plug will fit in this output, and also makes it impossible to plug HD Audio cable in the wrong way.

As I stated before I've searched for answers for a few hours and tried many different things (reinstall drivers, unplug/replug) and none of those things have worked. Would really appreciate some help.

Right i`m going to presume, that you have a set of desktop speakers or something plugged into the back or rear audio output ports of the motherboard.

And that for the front two ports provided on the computer case that you either plug in.

1. A normal set of headphones into the front audio out jack.

2. Or that you are using a combined all in one headset and mic, for such things as in game chat or skype ect.

And.

3. That you have the Asus AI suite installed on your system provided on the motherboard cd/dvd that came with the motherboard.

Please tell me if all of this is correct, and send me a PM.
Will give you a list of things to do to get it working.

Yes I do have have desktop speakers plugged into my rear audio IO ports. I also have a normal set of headphones and another headset that combines the mic and headphones.

I had the AI suite installed but uninstalled it.

I did have it installed but no longer do. Should I reinstall it?

Hi Shaun

Thank you for your time but I solved the issue. I damn near yanked the cord out of the case and beat it against the wall. It worked after I plugged it in this time.

I am not exaggerating.
