First PC build - Computer shuts down after 5-10 seconds, no activity on monitor.

My first PC build, and I'm experiencing a problem.
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3
CPU: core it-6500
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3200 8GB (2 x 4GB)
No Graphics card installed yet.
PSU: EVGA Supernova EX650G 650W
I hit the power switch, the motherboard lights-up, the fans come one (CPU fan and both case fans), the front LED light turns on but no activity on the monitor. (The monitor works fine with my laptop). After 5-10 seconds the computer shuts down. I doublechecked everything in the case, all wires connected, RAM modules installed correctly, even re-installed the processor to make sure it was correct. Still the same issue.

This is my first build, and I'm no expert, so maybe I've done something wrong? Missed something? I went throug the 'No POST checklist' here, and I'm pretty sure everything is done correctly.
I can't believe this motherboard has no error codes or lights at all, no way to troubleshoot? Is that correct? I've searched the manual, and the gigabyte website and found nothing. It doesn't come with a speaker.

If any of the components were bad other than the mobo, I would at least see the BIOS correct?

Here's a link to a couple pics:

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Have you tried breadboarding it outside the case? There may be a short in the system. Double check that your ram is firmly seated (don't be afraid to use force) and that the power cables to the motherboard are securely in place. That is usually the problem with most issues like this. Also make sure the display cable is is in place firmly, if you can't get it to work with onboard try using the graphics card.

I did check all the cables, unplugged them then re-plugged them, same with the RAM, I tried booting with just one stick, then with the other stick (just one again), and then with both again. I checked the CPU to make sure it was in correctly. If by bareboarding you mean taking out the mobo and unplugging everything else but the ram and cpu/heatsink? No, I haven't tried that. Maybe that's my next step.

Yes, I thought of that, but don't have the equipment.

Yes, I removed the heatsink/fan and CPU and looked very closely with a flashlight, but saw no pins bent.

No, it means setting up the system outside of the case. You can start the system without the case by shorting the two power pins on the motherboard with a metal object like a screwdriver, paperclip, etc.

Thank you for your help.I'll give it a try, but probably in the morning as I'm starting to drift off now. (I've been messing with this thing for hours.)

So, I did some testing at a buddy's house who has more equipment. The motherboard outside the case with the power pins jumped did the same exact thing, boots up for 5-10 seconds, then shuts down and reboots.

My buddy had a internal speaker which we used on my machine. I received what sounded like 4 long beeps and one short. He says he's pretty sure it was 5 long beeps. Either way, it's not something thats on the list, unless I'm hearing the 5 short beeps for bad CPU.

He did, took the battery out for a minute or two. This is a strange one. He thinks that either my mobo or CPU is bad. The link you sent me says 5 short beeps is CPU error, maybe thats what I'm hearing? Although they are definitely not short.

That should do it, at last resort you could also try reseating the CMOS jumper although it should have the same effect. I would say that there is a far greater chance that the motherboard is faulty rather than the CPU so I would start there.

That's a good point. Thank you very much for your help and advice, it is much appreciated.
