I'm looking to buy a gaming PC. I want to be able to comfortably run games like GTA V on the highest settings smoothly. I am not an elite PC gamer however, so it need not necessarily be the best of the best, since I probably won't notice the difference.

I am looking at this PC from aftershock:

https://www.aftershockpc.com/welcome/ProductconfigRec/hypergate-new-2

Would this satisfy my requirement without me doing anything (overclocking or whatever technical jargons since I'm clueless)? Price is not a big issue (though cheaper is still better). I could possibly buy parts and assemble myself, but I would definitely prefer not to because my knowledge of computers ain't that good.

Also, my current monitor's resolution is 1600 x 900. It is several years old. I should be upgrading it right? If so, what should I change to?

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. I did some reading, and saw some concerns on how a 970 may not be sufficient for a 1440p. Since I'm a casual gamer, I suppose a 1080p would be my choice. Which from the list would you suggest?

Also just to clarify, this PC is meant to last for a while. Is a 970 good enough to also handle possible future games at the highest settings? Or is it recommended to spend on a better GPU. Bare in mind again that I'm a casual gamer, just that I can't stand if I can't play games on the highest settings :D

You should build a computer for what you want it to do now, most of us replace our video card twice as often as the rest of the computer.

For 1080p gaming 2gb Vram is all you need, 1440p needs at least 3.

The GTX 960 is great for 1080p (you need more VRAM for higher resolution) the GTX 970 has plenty of VRAM for 1440p.

the 960 on sale is $180 the, 970 is $280 obviously the 970 is better, but at 1080p the 960 will be averaging 50fps in GTA V its on ultra (GTA V is one of the more demanding games)

and over 80 fps 1080p options on high

The GTX 960 at 1080p and the GTX 970 at >1080p will both last you about three years or so before needing upgrading.

Thanks for your reply. Ideally I would build my own, but I don't know what to buy. I'm quite a tech noob, and my only knowledge for building a computer is assembling it given all the parts :D

3 years sounds good enough for me. Wouldn't I be able to upgrade the GPU on my prebuilt, or other parts incrementally?

[Edit]
Oh I read it as you suggesting that I build the comp instead of buying a prebuilt :D

Oh my question on the 970 was mainly to ask if i should get a 980 instead.

The 970 is plenty of horse power,I got the 970 and am kicking myself for it I didn't need anything this high end (even the 960 or 950 wouldve been fine). Ive downclocked my 970, I dont go above 1.5gb vram usage and am always at 60fps (my monitors max) at every game I play, the fan never comes on.

The 970 is an excellent choice for anyone gaming at 1440p or less, by the time its starts bogging down you cna get something much much better than the 980 for under $200

Whenver you need to upgrade the videocard, the power supply will probably need upgrading too (if the one the prebuilt came with isnt already dead-they dont last), Then you will want to put the best cpu your motherboard can handle in because that too will be super cheap by then too, and then youll realize how simple it is to put a computer together and start building your own and kick yourself for ever paying so much more for a prebuilt PC (thats what's happened to most of us) =)

Well I think I have little problems with upgrading my PC incrementally by replacing GPU, CPU, PSU etc when the time comes. I just needed a solid 'foundation' PC which is difficult for me to source and build on my own initially due to my lack of knowledge :D my current PC is a junk comp with weak parts and bottlenecks everywhere so I have to start from scratch.

Thanks everyone! Cheers!
