Hi,

I am looking to build a new machine but I would like to don't overclock since I am not looking for the maximum results (I have already an asus strinx gtx960 2gb and I am not looking to change it) and I am only interested to play at 1080.

I have seen a lot of topic and discussion about the i5 6600k and related motherboards, but what about a non overclock able system?

is the i5 6500 the best for this purpose?
and which would be the best motherboard for it?

The main reason why i ask these questions is because I don't want to spend a lot of money in something I will not use, I am a modest gamer and I will be ok with a modest system (obviously saving some bucks)

Thanks

It's up to you if you think 50 euro is worth 300mhz speed difference. Otherwise just pair the 6500 with a z series motherboard if you want to sli later. I don't think I'd pay 50 euro ($55 usd) for a couple hundred mhz with no intention to overclock but that's me.
when you look at the intel cpu there all the same core tech now from the i3 to the i7. the k cpu lets you overclock and the other lettered units are for low power. to save money for the gpu you can go down to a slower i5 and you wont see any issues. whe nyou see two i5 one rated at 3.0 and one at 3.2 g there the same cpu just one passes intel qa tests at a higer speed and is binned for more money. the z/h/b chipsets you have to look at the sound/ethernet and ports on each mb. some have more then one m2 slot and other add on like higher end sound chipset and ethernet. most h mb have 6-8 sata ports and standard 3 port sound. some h mb will do sli and crossfire most have one video slot and few pci slots.

I admit that I wouldn't mind to add a second gtx 960 in the future in case I would like to play some new eager game.
Taking that in consideration which h170 mobo would you suggest?
and would the i5 6500 be bottle-necked? (I highly doubt it, but better be save than sorry)

Ehm, browsing the articles I have read that the h170 would not have multi gpu support:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-h170-motherboard-price-list,4310.html

So I most problably stick with a z170, at this point I am starting to doubt that the i5 6500 would still be the best option considering that I would save only 50 Euro......

This may actually be the best solution considering that I could save on cpu, cooling, psu and case (I will not need an high number of 140mm fans considering I will not overclock) and use the difference to change my current ram (I own 8gb DDR3, but at this point I will try to sell them and invest on 8 gb DDR4, which cost around 50/60 euro more then DDR3), considering that the selection of d3 mobo is limited and I haven't seen any combo available yet.

Thanks for your help :)
