Right now I have a TP Link WDN3200 USB Wireless Adapter which was working fine up until a few days ago when it started randomly dropping to 1 mbps instead of 20. I tested the wifi using my brother's computer and it was working fine, so I know that something's wrong with my wifi adapter.

I've decided to buy a new wireless adapter but I'm not sure which would be the best for my situation. My computer is on the second floor but my router is on the first floor. The router is dual band, and my internet speed is 20 mbps so I don't need anything too fancy.

Also, I would consider getting a powerline adapter, but I've read that they're not as good as wifi. My budget would preferably be under $40.

PowerLine is a tryout proposition, it performance depends on your house's electrical wiring so I would buy from somewhere I can return. Pro (if it works) you may potentially go faster for in-LAN traffic, like you are watching video from a LAN server, and you are not affected by other wireless users in the house.

If u end up with another WIFI adapter, I suggest a PCI-based, no USB, is a bias of mine, IF you have a free PCI slot.

I do have a free PCI slot so that would work. I'd also like to just try powerline though to see how it works for me.
