3pin fans in 4 pin splitter?

Hi guys, i currently have two 3pin case fans connected to 3pin and 4pin fan header on my mobo. Problem is, that in speedfan I can only control the one in 4pin slot. My thought was to buy a y-cable splitter. Is it correct to buy 1x4pin->2x4pin? Will it work and am I going to be able to control both fans (although at same % of speed) through speedfan?

Control wise the slitter will work, however you should max use one amp off the header since you could blow it.

Your safest bet is to buy a controller board that takes in external power.

That would certainly be nice, but it's an old computer, which I don't use often. I want it not to sound like a jumbo jet while keeping the cost at minimum. Do you think that it could realistically get burnt?
