What is the absolute best OC for the 970 G1 Gaming?

So I have a 970 G1 gaming and I want to overclock it as most as possible because of the fact that I have a i7 920 Which obviously is not the best CPU ever. So basically I am asking what the best OC settings would be to get the absolute most out of my GPU. Also may I add that I can't OC my CPU (Which would be a huge help)

~~PC Specs~~
CPU: Intel i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo
GPU: Gigabyte GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD
RAM: 12.00 GB DDR3-1066
PSU: 550W FSP AURUM S PSU 80PLUS Gold
HDD: 2X 1TB SATA 3Gb/s 7200rpm
SSD: Kingston 120GB SATA3 6Gb/s SSD
MOBO: Studio XPS 435T
CASE: SilverStone Redline RL04B ATX Mid Tower Case

Solution
should be able to get around 1500 MHz core and 4000 MHz memory. every card is different though, you'll have to tweak and test your own until you find the most stable settings. i get, on average, a boost of 10 fps in most games from overclocking my GPU.

I know how to overclock GPU's a little, but I'm not that advanced, could you recommend some options I should put on it for MSI after burner or something please? But thanks for the answer anyway :)

10 FPS increase from oc gpu alone, is quite awesome :)

well, here's a screen shot of my MSI Afterburner settings

but again, you might have different results (better or worse) and mine isn't even 100% stable in all games. Black Ops 3 is the only game that gives me an issue, incidentally an overclock isn't really needed for that game.

i used Unigine Heaven as my benchmark/stress test and it works pretty well. after you find a good stable overclock using stress test, you'll have to test it out in games as well since some won't work as well as others.

the gtx 970 is a very nice overclocker, and can contend with the 980 (which can also be overclocked quite nicely).

Cheers, I haven't tried it yet but am about to but, I am having a problem with even the littlest overclock. What is happening is that when I put an OC on and do a stress test on Heaven it either crashes or gives me half the FPS I would get without any OC. Any help here?

Can run fine without OC, I have the latest drivers, and PSU is a few weeks old.

If I do any unstable OC no clock will be stable until I reboot. E.g, if i get to say +150 core, and that runs fine, then I try +200 and thats unstable, even if I go down to the default clock It will not be stable.
