Hi there!

I have a quick question that hopefully someone can answer for me in regards to BIOS compatibility and the CPU that I have picked out.

The CPU is: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor

I checked ASUS's website and the CPU is compatible, although the website says: "*Before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors, we suggest that you first download the BIOS updater for new Intel 4th Gen Core Processors and then update the BIOS using this tool."

The Motherboard is a: Asus H81M-E Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

I contacted ASUS after realizing this issue and I was told that I would be able to update the BIOS. Although I read on NewEgg, a review about someone who had purchased the MB and attempted installing a 4th Gen CPU and his PC would not POST.

I purchased the MB last December and the BIOS version on the MB is "Rev 1.03".. I am not entirely sure what that means.. I dug around and did not come up with much. ASUS website claims my CPU has been "BIOS Validated since: 0808" - I am assuming that is the BIOS version that it was tested/compatible with.

I will be receiving the CPU as a gift for Christmas.. so it is unopened at the moment. I would just like to know if I need to return the CPU and get one that will be compatiable with the MB (since I cannot return it since I have had it so long) or if I will be fine with the CPU that I have now.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I just checked Intel's website as well and it said it was compatible at the minimum BIOS of 0218. The update on ASUS website is 2203. I can only assume the "Rev 1.03" is not going to surpass the "0218" version...

Solution
Rev 1.03 the the design of that motherbd, not much to do with the bios at all.
Your cpu is compatible since bios version 0808 you said. If you look at Asus's Bios list you will see that bios 0808 came out in Jan of 2014.

So you see it is very unlikely that you have a brand new two year old motherbd in your hands... You should be fine and probably already have 2203 since it its almost 5 months old.

Ah, I read somewhere that the "Rev 1.03" was the BIOS version somewhere.

Thanks!

I just needed some reassurance that it was going to work before I put it all together.
