Would 2133 ddr3 have similar performance to the ddr4 2133? Because recently I had a build I showed my parents that had a ddr3 mobo & ram which they ended up ordering for my christmas present. It was an unfinished build which I later switched for a motherboard with ddr4 support, and the corresponding ram. Is it worth letting them know I checked their email to know what I got to try to make sure they get the right parts? (Not coming here for a lecture, on being a bad kid, or making a bad initial build. I updated the parts list, but I don't think they looked at the new one before buying the parts)

Solution
Intel skylake does not depend on ram speed for performance.
DDR3 or DDR4 performs about the same.
But, motherboards that support DDR3 tend to be lower entry level. And the ram that is supported is low voltage 1.35v ram so many who own current ddr3 ram will not be able to use it.
Better to buy DDR4 and a suitable motherboard.
1.2v ddr4 ram will be 2133 or 2400 speed either works as well as higher speed ram.

I think you did well by getting the right parts up front.
so go ahead and tell them you fixed the list you had shown them initially (with no reference to the already ordered stuff) (aka hey, you guys remember that list? apparently i need ddr4 with skylake - as seen *here*)

performance for dd4 and dd3 at the same frequency is about the same, problem is ddr4 will go to higher frequencies whereas ddr3 is at its limit.

Hm, from my little bit of research as of right now there isn't a huge performance bump gaming wise from 2133 to even 3200 ram. This is only one website (http://www.legitreviews.com/ddr4-memory-scaling-intel-z170-finding-the-best-ddr4-memory-kit-speed_170340/5) but in the 2 games it tested there were only a 2.5 fps bump from 2133-3200 in metro last light, and a 0.8 fps bump in GTA V
