Need Help Connecting to internet

I recently finished building two PCs, a work one for my dad and a gaming one for myself. I have the capability to connect both right to the router via an ethernet cable. I plugged the ethernet cables into the motherboards and nothing came up in regards to available networks i assumed that it wouldnt work if i just plugged it in .. both are running windows 10. the router is a Netgear WGR614 (on which i plan to ugrade within the next few weeks.) and i wasnt sure if it was too old? i need help setting it up on both computers

Available networks are part of wifi which you do not have in those pc's. Do you have a big red x over network connections? Do you have your ethernet card drivers installed?

Yes the big red x appears over the network logo. I have a Wifi card in my gaming computer which ive been using so i can download drivers if thats what i need. For my dads computer there is no wifi card so would i be able to download a copy of the driver onto a flashdrive to put on his computer?

Yes you need the drivers. Do you have the MB disk? That would be sufficient to get you started for the NIC card. Have a look in device manager. What do you see under network adapters?

NIC=network interface card, MB disk= Motherboard disk.
