I had my computer open and I noticed there was a big build up of dust on the fan that cools the processor, so I removed the fan and cleaned it, before I replaced the fan I turn the computer on, (Yes I'm an idiot) the computer was only on for about 6 mins, I didn't notice any heat build up, and it wasn't carrying out any heavy tasks. I decided for some reason to install the fan back whilst the computer was on (Again I'm an idiot...) whilst I was screwing it back in the computer suddenly turned off. Once I had reconnected the fan I tried to turn it back on, but now there is just a steady orange light and nothing happens. I tried removing the RAM, Graphics card, anything plugged into it, I even replaced the CMOS battery. I disconnected the power supply into the motherboard (Brown and Black Cables) and all the fans start up, but as soon as I plug the motherboard back in, nothing. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it?!

I hate to be the one to tell you this...but you're better off mothballing that piece of crap 220 now, and buying yourself a new (much better) computer this holiday season. Frankly speaking, as a long time owner of over a dozen different DELL desktop computers, the Vostro series is the red-headed stepchild in their overall product lineup. Your computer is made with below average quality components, which is why it crapped out on you while cleaning the fan. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that the power supply, motherboard and / or the memory are toast now. Your story is not uncommon (AT ALL), and it's the reason I would never buy anything but a XPS / Alienware level desktop from Dell. (no matter how attractive the price tag was) So you...

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear.
