Hi guys. I have a big question that I think you can help me with. Recently my PCU got fried, and not in a user friendly way ( a 500W one). I am running a Asrock 970 extreme3 motherboard, along with an fx 6300 six core processor, 8gb or DDR 3 clocked at 1866mhz, 2 HDD, 1 DVD unit and a R9 380 4GB ddr5. The trick question is the following: I upgraded my PCU with a Segotep GP900G, 800W. Should I be worried of some kind of similar response of my PCU or am I safe to run the games at full capacity ? It's already in my PC, working fine while browsing and some video watching, but I'm still not confident enough to start any sort of game ( still hearing the crack of my previous PCU ). SO what do you say ?

Brand name of that psu doesn't sound familiar to me but 800 w is plenty enough to power your system under any circumstances.

Best luck!

I don't know for sure, but an educated guess would tell me that is a poor quality PSU.

Wattage (nor even certification) are the only things to look for in a PSU. 800W Gold Certified sounds awesome......on paper.
The issue with PSUs is the quality of their components ............ Segotep are Chinese company (chinese capacitors are the downfall of poor PSUs), and their PSUs appear overpriced for what they likely are.

Segotep PSUs seem to retail for in excess of $100 USD .......... and I'd doubt their quality.

As a comparison, a SuperNOVA B2 750W Semi-Modular Bronze can be picked up for less than $70 at the moment, and is a quality, solid, well protected unit. https://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-110b20750vr

The problem with low quality PSUs is, if they go, they don;t tend to have sufficient protection to save the rest of your components and may well take your motherboard and more with it.

Really, poor quality units can go at any time. Some will last a while, some for a long time, but diminish in quality/performance over time.

My honest recommendation would be to replace it with a quality unit ASAP - but use it at your own risk. You might find you can game on it just fine for a while.......bu replace it soon.
