Ok i just recently upgraded to a i5 4690k and have been reading and trying every guide i can find on overclocking and have had no real luck at getting a stable over clock except when i tried easy tune and hit autotune. i have had a couple of decently stable oc at 4.5ghz with temps at 61c with my cooler set to quiet mode. I have corsair 110i gtx cooler. Mostly my problem is the bios menu has so damn many options under the voltage menu that i get lost quickly. i have had most luck at 4.5 core 4.0 uncore and 1.275 vcore. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, nice choice of components.

Secondly, download the following free and safe programs:
- HWmonitor
- CPUZ
- Aida64
- Intel Burn Test
- IOBit Uninstaller...

1st rule of overclocking...never, never, EVER use an auto-overclocking program. Ever.

Using IOBit Uninstaller, uninstall any programs you have used to OC your CPU. Dont, just uninstall it through windows...use this program, it is far, far more thorough.

Your biggest problem is your Vcore is likely far too low. A "stable" OC of 4.5 ghz w/ a Vcore of 1.275 Vcore just doesnt sound right.

Go into BIOS, do it the right way, the manual way. It's very easy. Set your Vcore voltage to something like 1.3025 and your CPU multiplier to 4500 ghz.

Run HWmonitor, CPU-Z and then do a quick 10 runs of Intel Burn Test on Very High. This should quickly tell you if its stable or not. If it's not, and you still have some room to safely increase temperature, bump up your Vcore another 0.050V and try again. Keep trying until you either reach and unsafe temp or you pass Intel Burn Test on Very High.

Now comes fine tuning. This is the laborious process where you need to find the perfect balance between your clock and your Vcore in the long term, hence using Aida64's stress testing feature.

I'd also try to bump your uncore to 4.2 or 4.3 if possible.

Let me know if you have questions.

ok i tried what you said set the vcore to 1.302 and multi to 45 here is results. i had to turn pump to performance mode and fans on cooler to balanced. with 2 fans on cooler running at 1334rpm and the other 3 case fans running at no higher then 760rpms the highest temp recorded was 77c on the package and 76c on one of the cores.
I think i may return to my 4.4ghz oc since i can leave it both in quiet mode and only hit 71c max on package after 7 runs of burn test.
you info was truly helpful how would you suggest i proceed if i wanted to hit say 4.7ghz. thank you again for your time.

No problem my friend, feel free to contact me anytime if you need any other help. If you could, would you select my original answer as the solution so this thread can be considered "answered". Thank you and have fun with your OC!
