Laptop will not Boot on SSD AHCI Mode

My system:

  • ■ Lenovo Thinkpad x140e
    ■ Crucial 128 GB SSD
    ■ Windows 7 64-bit

Basically if I change the BIOS to run in AHCI mode instead of compatibility (IDE), the system doesn't boot. It just acts as if no drive is found. I've already followed the registry steps mentioned here, but it didn't help. I can see from the boot log that it does load msahci.sys and iastorv.sys.

Also, the reason I installed Win 7 on the SSD in IDE mode was because attempting to do it in AHCI mode wouldn't work. It couldn't find the drivers to do so. Even after getting the drivers from the Lenovo website and pointing to them, it just wouldn't find the SSD in AHCI mode during a fresh install.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you do that hack you need to make sure you have right drivers already installed on the computer, which may be tough to sort out. And it may not work as you found out. Or it can work but with a large performance hit or startup time increase.
