Hello guys...

so basically I've recently bought a brand new RAM stick, 4GB DDR3L-1600 PC3-12800 1.35v, but apparently it doesnt work properly on my laptop Asus X550LB.

So i've ran a few tests and tests are showing that when I take out the memory, the frequency is at ~1600mhz, but when I put this memory in, it gets locked at ~1333mhz. Screen flickers and I've made sure the RAM is not faulty by putting it inside my second laptop, which worked just fine.

Now.. I would like to know if its a 1333mhz RAM stick or what; because my laptop doesnt seem to support 1333mhz, only 1600mhz and low-voltage (1.35v), here are the screenshots of the task manager:

Screen flickering does not happen in BIOS, nor in Safe Mode; but when I take out the RAM module, the laptop works just fine.

I want to buy a different RAM stick but I dont really know which is supported anymore...
I've come up to this, please tell me if its going to work:

Solution
What are the part numbers for the existing memory and for the new memory please?

The Kingston Value RAM with part number KVR16LS11/4 is compatible with the ASUS X550LB, but, it may not be compatible with existing installed memory due to variation in memory characteristics.

I wouldnt know, here is the cpu-z window of my integrated ram (I have only 1 slot for RAM, which is empty now):

Also 1 more question; why is there blue and green variations of the RAM stick? I've seen both blue and green and I really want to know what this means, example:

Both of these are KVR16LS11/4, but I want to know the main difference before buying either of these.

Best regards,
James

Thanks for the details.

The color of the module PCB doesn't matter. The color is most likely chosen based on what PCB is available at the time of module manufacture.

It is noted that different memory chips appear to be used also, but the memory chip specification will (or should) be the same in order to maintain compatibility.

If using known compatible memory, but the laptop doesn't seem to boot/run properly, then it is likely to be a compatibility issue between the existing installed memory and the new memory. In this case another memory module will have to be tried, and so on, until compatible memory is found.

Damn so many things to note.. yeah the one I bought was locked at 1333mhz, and that was causing my screen to flicker (why the hell would it do that?!), but lets just hope this one is going to work.

Thanks for all your help, I'll reply here as soon as I receive it, but as of now I will mark your first reply as the solution :)
