GPU power and usage cuts in half after dying ingame

I was playing BF:BC2 and on first boot it played smoothly but when I died it all went to <language> and lagged like crazy. Here's a graph with my attempt at explaining what's going on: http://i.imgur.com/iojhwrU.png

I reinstalled drivers and enabled max performance. Could this be a hard drive issue by any chance?

no man not the harddrive. you should open the case and reconnect the cables again. Try it should work. cause in reality when you die in a game, the power usage goes down, but goes back up when you spawn again.
so i think its just not picking up that you spawned in again. So try pulling all the cables and just connect them once again, should fix it.
