my 6 core processor that i just bought with an M5 A97 motherboard is only running off of 1 core. the task manager and cpu-z both tell me its running off of 1 core. someone please help ;(
Check system configuration/boot tab and make sure that the 'number of processors' box is NOT checked. Or if it is, it is set to all of the cores it shows.
And be sure that in task manager/view/cpu history that one graph per CPU is ticked.

Honestly ive been checking other similar issues to make sure that i did what i could before asking for help. i did both of what you sugested. it says 1 core. and my cpu is running basically at 90%....

I've never heard of that happening before unless there was a setting in Win or BIOS that was not correct. The only thing I can think of is to 1) reset the BIOS to factory new using the CMOS jumper, and 2) remove the CPU and make sure no pin is missing or bent (although it would be darn near impossible to seat the CPU with a bent pin).
If all else fails, I'd be tempted to think you had a one in a million bad cpu. Do you have any other cpu to test with?
i literally just bought the cpu and motherboard. the pins are fine and the bios is up to date. they are right out of the box. i dont understand why it only finds 1 core....
Your BIOS must not be set properly. Make sure your CPU is supported and update the BIOS to the latest version. Just because it's out of the box doesn't mean it's up to date. Check the website.

Is it the LE model board? If so it is a 4 phase board with no heatsink on the VRMs. That's not good. If it's a Pro model then that's completely different.
If it's the LE model you should get some of the copper stick-on VRM sinks.
As far as the 1 core problem I would contact ASUS. The only other thing is to search the BIOS for a feature that controls how many cores are enabled and make sure it's set properly.
it is the m5a97 LE R2.0 and if i must contact asus then i would rather just exchange it for another one since i still have a guarantee... its literally less than 48 hours old. does anyone know if it may be due to my os being 32 bit? i know it doesnt recognize more than 4 gb ram due to 32 bit.... ill be trying to run 64 bit now... but i doubt it will change the cores readings?
