Computer Shuts off Randomly After Switching to 4K Monitor

Hi everyone,

I just upgraded to a 28" 4K monitor and ever since then my computer has shut off and restarted every time I connect a Bluetooth device (headphones) to my computer or every time I try to join a game in Battlefield 4, just as the map finishes loading. When this happens after connecting a Bluetooth device, the screen goes BLACK and the computer restarts. When this happens after loading a map in Battlefield 4, the screen turns RED for a few seconds, then the computer restarts. I had no problems while using my 24" 1080p monitor before switching to a 4K monitor. However, even switching back to the 1080p monitor now will not solve the problem. I am currently connected to the 4K monitor with a Display Port cable. My computer is about 2 years old and gets ~ 5 hrs use per day. So far everything else works properly, including the game Need for Speed Rivals on Ultra settings in 4K. My computer did have some weird power issues when I tried to start it for the first time after connecting it to the 4K monitor, it took a few tries to get it turned on by unplugging and plugging the power cable back in.

Here's what I've tried so far with no improvement:
- Reinstalling Battlefield 4 & Bluetooth adapter drivers (WIDCOMM® Bluetooth Windows Software)
- Powering my monitor and computer through separate wall outlets
- Setting in-game graphics settings all to low
- I've tried reinstalling my video drivers to the latest version (AMD Radeon Crimson 15.11 x64 bit)
- Switching Graphics Card to other PCIe slot (nothing changed, everything else still works okay)
- Max CPU Core Temp = 40C (while idling)
- Max GPU temp = 35C (while idling)

I'm wondering if this is a power-related problem or a software problem.

Here's my Specs:
CPU: AMD FX-8320 Eight Core 3.5GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo)
CPU Cooler: SilenX EFZ-120HA5 120mm
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G43 (MS-7693) v3.0
RAM: 8GB (2x4)
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 270X (2GB)
SSD: 250GB SATA III Samsung 850 EVO
SSD: 112GB SATA III Kingston
Hard Drive: 500GB SATA III Western Digital
Power Supply: Corsair CX500 500W
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Monitor: Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD 28”

Peripherals:
2x External Hard Drives (USB 3.0)
Xbox controller wireless receiver
Bluetooth dongle
Mouse & Keyboard wireless receiver
Klipsch 2.1 Promedia computer speakers wireless adapter

Do I need to get a higher wattage power supply? If so how many watts would I need if I also plan on running xfire r9 270x?

Thanks!

Even with settings reduced, the card now has to render 4 times the pixels per frame than it had to do 1080p. That may be taking the GPU load above what the rather poor quality Corsair CX 500W can keep up with. There'll be more CPU load as well. If so, shut downs or reboots would be what I would expect to be the result.

This is an old thread, but if anyone is still trying to figure out how to get their 4k Samsung monitor to work without issue, I think I may have solved it...in my case I did anyway.

My issue has been the same as everyone else's. Running dual 980 GTX with SLI in 4k resolution via display port and for no apparent reason, my monitor would blink off, then on, then off, then on, etc. PC was still functioning normally, no issues, no crashes, no shut downs, nothing. I manually restart my PC, go to my event viewer and, as always, no error reports other than the, "Your system rebooted from an unexpected shutdown, blah, blah, blah...." It was driving me nuts, like it is for you reading this right now...I run the latest drivers, even tried every legacy driver in fact, but still the same issue. I reinstalled my OS twice, same issue...so, I called Samsung, no help....I called EVGA and Nvidia, no help...but the rep at EVGA said for me to individually test each card before they make an RMA. I told him I would test each card....so...

Both cards are exactly the same, however one card had a different BIOS than the other. Not a big deal though...so I installed only 1 card, updated the driver to the latest and updated the bios to the latest. ran it for 4 days, played games, surfed the web, rendered videos, etc...on display port. NOT ONE ISSUE!!!

Swapped out the card for the other card, and did the same exact thing...updated the BIOS and drivers to the latest and ran the same tests...for another 4 days...NOT ONE ISSUE!!!

I then installed both cards with SLI mode and have been running this set up for the past three weeks running various tests...and STILL NO ISSUES....problem solved...I think I know why it did what it was doing before....

Even though the cards hardware were exactly the same and the drivers were exactly the same, when I uninstalled the cards drivers individually using DDU, updated the BIOS to the latest, then updated the drivers, things worked great. I think the idea is to have both cards exactly the same in every way so as to avoid software issues!!! Hardware and software...Now I am running both cards like a god and getting crazy FPS and NOT ONE CRASH

I hope this helps someone....
