Hi,
I've just built a new pc and without the GPU installed everything runs fine. As soon as the GPU is plugged in nothing is output to the monitor even when I am using the ports from the motherboard. I don't even get to see the BIOS.

Specs are:

Intel i5-6500
Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3-DDR3 Motherboard
MSI Nvidia Gtx 960 2 GB
HyperX FURY Series 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1866MHz
Corsair VS550 ATX/EPS Vs Series 550 W 80 Plus PSU

Not really sure what to do, I'm thinking it's a dead card but I wanted to check here first for any suggestions.

Solution
Hello reverate,

A few questions to kick things off:

1) Are you plugging in the monitor's video cable directly to the back of the GPU?

2) Are you sure the video cable works?

3) Is there another PC you can test the graphics card in to ensure that is the failing hardware?

I've been using a VGA cable to test everything. Given that the GPU has no VGA port I haven't plugged directly into the GPU. The cable definitely works as I have got the PC running fine with the same cable but without the GPU. Would it be worth testing with an HDMI cable even though it stops the VGA from working? My parents also have a Desktop which I could plug into however the PSU is only 430W, would this be enough to power everything?

Ok cool, I'll give that ago. It's actually my brothers PC and he's using it for work for the next half an hour or so, I'll try that when he's done. I didn't expect responses so quickly! Thanks!

Wow it all works fine, I can't believe it was that simple. We did actually try the HDMI port on the GPU earlier but we were having other issues with the HDD and stuff so I just didn't think to check it again once the rest was working. First time building a pc that has a dedicated GPU so I've never noticed that before. Thanks for the advice!
