I am currently looking for a GTX 970 and they are all very similar. I would like a recommendation on which 970, from the following brands: EVGA, ASUS, and Gigabyte, is best out of the box. I would also like a little info/programs for overclocking CPU/GPUs. I have the Storm Stryker case.

This is the most powerful but it is awfully bad for its money: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125840&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

It is almost as expensive as a much more powerful 980: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx980gaming4g

You will be better buying this one - it is good out of the box and is not stupidly expensive like that Gigabyte one: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-04gp43975kr

Make sure your power supply can support the card.

Cheers :)

My PSU is a 750W EVGA G2. That's a pretty nice XTREME card but it is pretty expensive, although I will keep it in mind. I should also say that I would really appreciate if the card had a back plate. Broke it down to these two:

I am still open to other suggestions, but these two seem to be the best at this point, although they don't have the highest base core clocks.

"Strix is slightly slower but its overclocking potential and an awesome cooler are very nice."

Right out of the box, this is the best one for the money with rebates: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-04gp43975kr

I really like the MSI Twin Frozr and ASUS Strix designs but you are asking for the best out of the box. The EVGA one will be a little faster but not very noticeably - it's the same GPU anyway and often factory overclocks range from 1.14-1.22 which is not that big a difference.

While the overall concept is the same, fans blowing across a heatsink filled with heatpipes, there are differences in design, fan output, size, shape, potential etc. I've found the STRIX has better cooling performance due to a larger heatsink, more optimal heatpipes, better fan design. But this also comes with the price of a larger gpu, whereas the Evga is more streamlined.
