Grounding myself correctly on first PC build?

So this is my first PC build and I am wondering how to ground myself. One way I have read is connect to the power supply. Do I basically just install the power supply into the case then plug it into a wall? Then turn off the switch on the power supply and attach the clip of anti static band onto the metal screw that attaches the psu to the case? Is that correct or am I wrong. Thanks

All you need to do is connect your anti-static wrist strap to any metal area of your case.

Leave the PSU unplugged from the wall. You'll be at the same potential as the case, and will be able to handle the components without risk of ESD damage.

The problem with that is my case is fully painted.

You can try connecting the clip to a screw on the PSU, but still keep the PSU unplugged from the wall.

The reason we recommend people not have the PSU connected is because, although slim, there is a chance that a surge could be passed through the circuit and kill you. It is very rare, but every so often there is a report of this occurring. Many people will tell you that it is fine to keep the PSU plugged into the wall, but there is absolutely no good reason to risk it.

I think people worry too much about this - I have never fried anything with static.
I don't have anti static mats or bands.
I touch a water pipe with one hand, and a screw sticking out of the case with the other.
Then I insert all the components, trying not to touch the electrical connectors.
If I get up and move around, I touch the water pipe before touching the computer again.
No problems, job done.

Would having in unplugged not work though? I was talking to Someone and I have a light switch with a metal outer part and they said just tap that frequently.

Could I screw in just the screw and touch that a bunch as well? Since it is grounded.
