Hello,

I have a XFX TS 650W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply. I was wondering whether this power supply is considered cheap. I've had it for about 4-5 months, now and it seems that the 24 pin connector is not working. So, I was wondering whether my motherboard could be damaged.

I've heard that cheap power supplys usually fry motherboards. So I am just wondering whether people think this power supply broke my mother board.

I was using my computer and one day it abruptly shut down. It seemed that the cable (outlet to power supply) was loose, loose enough that slight tug could pull it off. So, I think that's what causes the power supply to break.

My question is whether there's a chance that my motherboard or something else could be broken as well.

Here is my full parts list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/kbkkZL

Yep sounds like PSU failure! It should be in warranty have XFX replace it! It would though be nice to test with another PSU just to make sure it is not the board.

I got the PSU tested by some local computer shop, and they said that the psu was outputting bad voltages on the 24 pin connector. But they didn't plug in a working PSU to ensure the other parts were working so I'm not sure. Maybe I'll just ask that shop again to test everything again if they won't charge for it.

Well, I wasn't sure what was wrong with the computer when it shut down. So, I got it tested. I tried the paper clip test and the psu turned on, but was making weird noises.

I didn't know what else I could do too diagnose what was wrong so I gave it to a local computer shop. I didn't tell them to only test the PSU, I only told them I think it's the PSU and the computer won't turn on.
