The other day I finally decided it was about time I updated my graphic card's driver software. I am running a Nvidia GTX 555 on a desktop running Windows 10 64-bit Home. I downloaded the proper installer from the official Nvidia site and I was surprised to find that after installing and restarting that I couldn't even open my start menu. I am, however, able to run programs, launch Steam, and even run a game. I tried reinstalling and re-downloading the software; It didn't do me any good. My PC feels sluggish and awkward now, and I have no idea what to do. I believe I may have installed the new driver software over the old software without doing a clean install, which may have caused this dilemma, but after trying a clean install of the software nothing changed.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm running a Nvidia GeForce GTX 555 graphics card, an Intel Core i7-3770, 16GB of ram, and on a 2TB hard drive. I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 10 Home.
