Newbie and computer illiterate!

Have a gigabyte Z97 D3H motherboard. Immediately below the PCIe express x16 slot are 2 capacitors. This means that the MSI Radeon R9 380 graphics card will not fit due to the size of the cooling pipes and them hitting these 2 capacitors. Our local Computer Engineer has put the card in a secondary PCI slot at the bottom and stated that it wouldn't affect how it works. But it doesn't work.

Will I have to change the graphics card or can it be changed in the BIOS under PCIe slot configuration? I flicked through the manual (bear in mind I'm a 50 year old stonemason!) and it appears to me that if Auto is selected, the BIOS will automatically configure the setting.

The device manager says the device is working and that the drivers are current.

Or do I need to disable the integrated graphics driver. Core I5 CPU overclocked?

Solution
You could try setting the display output to PCIe slot 2 and see if that works.
In BIOS it should be under "Peripherals" and then "Initial Display output", set it to "PCIe slot 2" save and exit. Then you'll need to plug your monitor into the graphics card and restart.

Thank you. Actually all we needed to do was plug the monitor into the graphics card. The computer did all the rest. My son's fps on Steam quadrupled so he's happy now!

Next problem is it's his Christmas Present that I wanted him to test and I now have to tell him to get off it so can wrap it up! My other son is having a rebuild so I know what to do now.

Once again, thank you very kindly.

wow I googled this around and read reviews and not anyone reported this ?? maybe go with a card that fits right and not so off
