I have an amd a8-5600k apu, and recently I tried overclocking it with amd overdrive through catalyst just to see what would happen. After running it at 3800 mhz for a couple minutes my display driver crashed so I shut off overdrive, but now my cpu is always running too hot and overheats easily on things that it ran fine before. Is there anything I can do?

Overdrive makes changes to you BIOS. Simply turning off your computer won't solve the problem as its still overclocked. Try doing a reset to factory settings in Overdrive or open your tower and carefully remove the motherboard's lithium battery and keep it out for 5-10 min, put it back in and restart the computer. Removing the battery will reset CMOS and is a fail-safe should everything else fail. The problem with AMD Overdrive is it sets your Vcore higher than it needs to be to achieve the overclock its shooting for, which in turn produces more heat than is necessary. If you try overclocking again make sure you have proper cooling and overclock directly through BIOS so you know what changes were made. There are many good BIOS overclocking guides on the internet that you can follow.

Never use Windows utilities for overclocking. Always use BIOS settings. Then monitor your temps with HWINFO64, including VRM temp, while testing in Windows. Put a fan to blow onto the VRM heatsink. If your board has no VRM heatsink then you need to get 3rd party copper stick-on VRM sinks.
