Hello and thank you for reading this post!
I am newly registered, but have been lurking around for a while now every now and then , browsing for answers to issues me or friends had when the need arose.
Currently however I am somewhat tired and frustrated, so do forgive me if I forgo or offend any forum procedures. Before I explain my problem, let me thank you in advance, but also tell you: I work with computers and know how to handle software, but have little to no experience when it comes to hardware issues or building a computer myself.

System Specs are included in a separate txt file created with Speccy.
The short version; I'm running Windows 7 and have a Nvidia GTX 760 Graphics Card and a two monitor setup.

The Problem:
In short, my Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 encounters a Code 43 error on every startup.

I have had this same setup for a while now – I cannot recall any changes in software and certainly not in hardware that could have caused this issue.
I first noticed this a while back (end of September) when my second monitor wouldn't get a signal. After a reboot everything seemed fine. But ever since then matters have gone progressively worse:
First a driver update worked, then reverting drivers, then I had to completely reinstall them and eventually, as of now, nothing works to fix the issue.

This means that my GPU is disabled for some reason I cannot deduce. I have read that a Code 43 is a very generic error – which seems the case to me as well – and I have also seen that the usual solution was a clean reinstall of the drivers, or a new GPU, saying that the graphics card was actually broken. The fact that none of the 'patchwork' fixes that have worked up to now work anymore have me guessing – maybe my graphics card has a defect, and it has just gotten worse?
As I said, I wouldn't know.

Sadly I do not have a System Restore point (if that's the right term in English) from before the issue, so testing whether or not it is a hardware defect/solving my problem that way is not possible.

What I tried so far:
As you can guess from above, nothing here will seem outstanding to you, but perhaps it is good to list what I did clearly.

  • ■ Reboot
    ■ Update Drivers (using .exe from Manufacturers site)
    ■ Revert to older Drivers (using .exe from Manufacturers site)
    ■ Uninstall Device via Hardware manager, check for changed hardware, let windows reinstall driver software automatically
    ■ Uninstall device, install driver software manually
    ■ Do a clean uninstall with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) from Safe-Mode, then install drivers manually, let windows install them automatically, etc
    ■ Same as above, but running DDU in the regular operating mode, not in safe-mode.
    ■ Update Windows fully, including a recent update about graphics adapters. Screenshot included.

Further Guesses (things I have not tried yet):
Somewhere I have also read that updating your BIOS or resetting it (by either removing the bios battery or going into bios itself) may fix the issue. This seemed far fetched to me and I wasn't comfortable doing either until I had some confirmation.

I also have the possibility (like everyone in the world it seems) to upgrade to Windows 10. While I have the upgrade at the ready, I am reluctant to perform it yet because frankly, I like working with Windows 7 and would prefer sticking to it until Windows 10 is more than a beta-test.

Messing around with the physical graphics card. I have no other graphics card to switch it with – I'd need to buy a new one. I also haven't tried anything like removing and replugging or checking for physical damage.

Oh and a Windows reinstall. But that could prove difficult, considering I don't have the OS cd at hand.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer, for this issue is virtually crippling me as a visual artist (and annoying as a gamer). Thankfully I have a laptop I can work on , for now. I am aware there are a fair share of mishaps on my side – such as thinking I can patch the issue up by researching on my own and being comfortable with temporary results and not having a System Restore point.

You are right in saying there's a lot on google re. this error. HAve a look at this post on the GeForce forums, and try some of the suggestions there (I know its Win 10 but I suspect OS is irrelevant to your issue)
