Need opinions on Hard Drive set up.

Hello everyone,
I just installed 2 x WD Caviar Black 5 tb hdd's into my rig.

I ran disk management and no bad sectors were reported,
So my question is, other than setting up a back up for the drives, are there other things i can do to "protect" my files?

Also the hard drive is 7200 rpm. Does it always run at that speed at default? Should I set my drives to stop spinning after a certain amount of time? Are there settings I should mess with?

Other things to protect your files?... No not really. You can change your Power Management settings to spin down the drives when not in use if you want. The OS will likely do that by default anyway unless you have altered your Power Management settings to avoid that.
